Crime History – Billboards used to find killer

Published June 4, 2010 4:00am ET

On this day, June 4, in 1989, a mother and her two daughters were found floating in Tampa Bay. The Florida case became historic as police used billboards in an attempt to find more information about the killer.

Jo, Michelle and Christe Rogers had their hands and feet bound, concrete blocks tied to their necks and tape over their mouths.

For the first time, police posted information and photos of the victims on area billboards, asking “Who killed the Rogers family?” Oba Chandler sold his boat and skipped town.

A palm print on a brochure found in the women’s car eventually led to the arrest of Chandler three years later.

Chandler is currently on death row.
