Lil Wayne apparently doesn’t let anyone mess with Nicki Minaj.
Nicki was set to perform at the star-studded Hot 97 Summer Jam concert in New Jersey Sunday night when the emceeing DJ threw her a bit of shade.
According to E! Online, DJ Peter Rosenberg (who also hosts MTV’s “Hip-Hop Squares”) took the stage at the MetLife Stadium to introduce one of the opening acts when he said his radio station was “all about that real hip-hop.”
He went on to say, “I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with ‘Starships’ later,” he said. “I’m not talking to y’all right now.” He then quickly dismissed the song.
Lil Wayne, the founder of Nicki’s label, Young Money Entertainment, soon tweeted, “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”
Nicki then confirmed that she would no longer be headlining the show when she sent out tweets saying, “The President has spoken,” and “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes.”
Nicki later said that her set was going to feature appearances from Cam’ron, Lauryn Hill, Beenie Man, Foxy Brown, Lil Wayne, Birdman, Tyga and Nas, who ended up replacing her as the main act that night.
And according to E!, the DJ made no apologies about his remarks. He later tweeted, “Last night i said nothing different than I have ever said … starships is s–t.”
