The Republican National Committee sent its first joint fundraising email with Donald Trump on Tuesday, as it begins to solicit the same small-dollar donations Trump received during his primary campaign.
“Our country doesn’t win anymore,” read the email, which was signed by “Team Trump.”
Tuesday’s small-dollar solicitation supplements recent fundraising efforts organized by the RNC’s Trump Victory Committee, including a dinner where attendees were asked to pay $25,000 per plate. The committee intends to pack the billionaire’s schedule with fundraising events between now and the November election.
“The RNC really wanted to do it and I wanted to show good spirit,” Trump, who spent nearly $50 million self-funding his primary campaign, said of the upscale fundraiser during an interview with the Associated Press last week.
“I was very happy to continue to go along the way I was,” he added.
According to the fundraising email, 80 percent of the money raised for the RNC’s Make America Great Again Committee will go toward Trump’s general election campaign. The remaining 20 percent will go to directly to the RNC, which now faces an uphill fundraising battle due to Trump’s previous decision to bankroll his own campaign.
In addition to fundraising off of Trump, the RNC has begun using the candidate’s nickname for Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton in their digital department.
An 60-second ad released last week targeted “Crooked Hillary” for “lying again” about the private email server she kept as secretary of state.
