Two shot near U Street
Two people were shot in a drive-by shooting in the U Street Corridor area in Northwest Washington.
Police said the men were at 13th and V streets around 2:30 p.m. Thursday when a vehicle pulled up near them and fired several shots. Both men were shot in the foot or ankle, and they ran to U Street to get help.
No arrest has been made, and the suspect was described as a male wearing a tan jacket and bluejeans.
Guilty plea in police sex case
A Department of Defense police officer pleaded guilty to traveling to the District of Columbia to engage in sex with a boy.
Matthew McMullen, of Waldorf, Md., was arrested in February after he showed up at the prearranged meeting site in D.C. with a loaded pistol in his vehicle. A Navy spokesman said McMullen, 27, has worked at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County since September.
McMullen is facing a likely sentence of up to five years in prison.
According to charging documents, McMullen told an undercover officer he met online that wanted to meet with a 13-year-old boy that afternoon but he had to go to work, according to court documents.
McMullen then texted his supervisor, who gave him permission to go into work four hours later than his normal start time.
D.C. youth offenders escape from facility
Four District youth offenders escaped from a South Carolina facility, just two days after a teenager beat a corrections guard and broke out of youth center in Laurel.
Law enforcement authorities began a multistate search for the four young men who escaped from the Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health center Wednesday night in Summerville, S.C. There were no reports of injuries at the facility.
Three of the youths were back in custody Thursday.
