Kimberley Paige Barnette, a candidate for mayor in Charlotte, N.C., included “white” among her qualifications amid her run, according to a report Wednesday.
“Republican & smart, white, traditional, “wrote on her Facebook page, the Charlottesville Observer reported.
The chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, Robin Hayes, condemned Barnette for the remarks, saying the race will not be decided on skin color.
“Any suggestion that a candidate is more or less qualified for political office based on their skin color alone is offensive to North Carolina Republicans, and we condemn it,” Hayes told WRAL. “This type of suggestion has no place in our public discourse.”
Barnette later apologized for possibly offending anyone, WRAL reported.
