A plea hearing has been scheduled for Prince George’s County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson, who faces federal witness and evidence tampering charges.
Johnson and her husband, former County Executive Jack Johnson, were ensnared in an FBI investigation of pay-to-play schemes. When arrested in November, prosecutors said Johnson flushed a $100,000 check, a bribe to for her husband from a developer, down the toilet, and attempted to hide nearly $80,000 in her underwear.
She would be removed from the council if she were found guilty of the crimes.
Her hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.
Jack Johnson pleaded guilty in May to one count of extortion and one county of evidence tampering, and faces up to 40 years in prison.
