Lewandowski: Jobs more important than ‘drain the swamp’

Corey Lewandowski, who used to run President-elect Trump’s campaign and has opened a political consulting firm, said Thursday that Trump’s pledge to “drain the swamp” is most likely not a top priority for the new administration.

Instead, he said Trump is much more likely to be focused on tax reform and other issues aimed at putting more people in jobs.

“I think if you had to put them in a chronological order, ‘drain the swamp’ is probably somewhere down at the bottom,” he said on Fox News.

“As opposed to getting tax reform done, making sure middle-class people have more jobs, making sure we’re renegotiating our bad trade deals, ensuring that we’re fixing Obamacare, repairing and replacing that, or replacing that and putting in something new,” he said. “I think at the end of the day, it’s about the economy.”

“So draining the swamp is a larger narrative, but what it’s really about is putting people back to work.”

Lewandowski is setting up a new government relations and political consulting firm in Washington. He and Barry Bennett, formerly of Ben Carson’s campaign, are behind the new “Avenue Strategies,” a firm that will launch this week.

Lewandowski said the firm will support candidates who “support the Trump agenda.” He also said his company doesn’t conflict with Trump’s goal of draining the swamp.

“I can promise you I will not be a registered lobbyist,” he said, according to Yahoo News. “Yeah, I can promise you I will not be a swamp creature.”
