The spotlight has been on the chaotic GOP primary, but new general election polls from Quinnipiac suggest that President Obama is really in huge trouble.
Obama’s re-election campaign has subtly hinted it will be writing off the white working class, and when you look at the numbers in Ohio it almost makes sense. Ignore the fact that both Romney and Gingrich lead him there by tiny margins — you need only look at the fact that the incumbent president garners only 42 percent support against either one. Meanwhile, the Q-Poll confirms what others have said — that Pennsylvania shows signs of becoming a real battleground state this time around:

Florida: Romney with 45 percent to Obama’s 42 percent; Obama at 46 percent to Gingrich’s 44 percent.
Ohio: Romney at 43 percent to Obama’s 42 percent; Gingrich with 43 percent to Obama’s 42 percent.
Pennsylvania: Obama edging Romney 46 – 43 percent; Obama tops Gingrich 48 – 40 percent.
In all three states, Romney fares better than Gingrich. But again, this election will probably be a referendum on Obama. He’s not looking good if he’s polling in the low 40s in important swing states.
