Eliot Spitzer’s room still in demand

As former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer returns to network news Monday night to co-host CNN’s new show “Parker Spitzer” (with conservative columnist Kathleen Parker), some lucky guest(s) will spend the night in his infamous sex scandal room — Room 871 at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.

Yeas & Nays wanted to know if Spitzer’s debut would affect reservations for the room where he allegedly spent the night with New York-based escort Ashley Dupre two years ago, but a spokesman for the hotel would not comment.

So, we decided to do some digging on our own. According to an employee at the front desk, Room 871 goes for $420 a night (when it is available), which he said was the same amount as other comparable rooms at the hotel.

It turns out that Room 871 is booked all this week, while other rooms at that bargain price are not.

Coincidence? Perhaps, but when we asked him if the room fills up morae than most, he just shook his head and laughed.
