Seamus Romney book stinks

A copy of the anticipated “Dog on the Roof! On the Road With Mitt & the Mutt,” an illustrated book about the Romney family dog Seamus, fell into the hands of Yeas & Nays on Thursday — and it landed with a dull thud.

The 50-plus-page clunker, by humor writers Bruce Kluger and David Slavin, chronicles a Romney trip across America that is short on wit (“Down here at the border they play hard to get. But why climb a wall? Why not charter a jet?” etc) and long on words that rhyme with “roof” (goof, oof, etc).

Perhaps the only noteworthy detail from “Dog on the Roof!” comes during the dedication, which gives a nod to the New York Times columnist who has written extensively about Seamus the Irish setter. “For our families,” it reads. “And Gail Collins.”
