Four people who police believe to be responsible for a number of thefts from vehicles in Montgomery County were arrested early Thursday morning.
Kiele Martin, 19, from Hyattsville, Tiara Groom, 20, from Bladensburg and two 17-year-olds from Silver Spring each have been charged with one count of possession of burglar’s tools with the intent to break and enter a motor vehicle, Montgomery County police said. Additional charges against the suspects are pending.
Neighborhoods in the police department’s Bethesda District recently saw an increase in thefts from vehicles. More than 45 vehicles were reported to have been entered overnight, and at least two cars were stolen recently because homeowners left keys in their cars.
Authorities believe the suspects were involved in most of the recent incidents.
About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police saw a suspicious vehicle in a neighborhood off Massachusetts Avenue. After officers stopped the vehicle, they found property believed to have been stolen from previous incidents and evidence linking the suspects to the two stolen cars, authorities said. The four suspects were in the vehicle.
