Trump: ‘Liddle’ Bob Corker ‘incompetent,’ ‘set the U.S. way back’

President Trump accused Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., of being “incompetent” and setting the “U.S. way back” on Tuesday morning after the senator said the president is “debasing” the nation.

“Sen. Corker is the incompetent head of the Foreign Relations Committee, & look how poorly the U.S. has done,” Trump said in a series of tweets. “He doesn’t have a clue as the entire World WAS laughing and taking advantage of us. People like liddle’ Bob Corker have set the U.S. way back. Now we move forward!

The relationship between Corker, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Trump has soured over the last few months, and an ongoing feud between the two escalated Tuesday morning, when they began exchanging barbs.

The Tennessee senator first told ABC the president should leave foreign policy to the “professionals for a while.”

Trump then took to Twitter to allege Corker is against GOP-led tax cuts and helped “President O give us the bad Iran Deal.” The president also said Corker decided not to run for re-election next year because Trump refused to endorse him—a point Corker refutes.

In a subsequent interview on CNN, the Tennessee senator unleashed a bevy of criticisms against Trump and said he spreads “provable untruths.”

When asked if he regrets supporting Trump in 2016, Corker said he “would not do that again,” and said the president’s lasting legacy would be the “debasement of our nation.”

“I think at the end of the day when his term is over, I think the debasing of our nation, the constant non-truth telling, just the name calling … I think the debasement of our nation will be what he will be remembered most for, and that’s regretful,” Corker told CNN.

“It affects young people. I mean, we have young people who for the first time are watching a president, stating, you know, absolute non-truths nonstop, personalizing things in the way that he does. It’s very sad for our nation.”
