Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy, D-Vt., said that National Security Agency officials have “gotten too carried away with what is technologically possible” with respect to security, adding that he fears the agency is “collecting [information] for the sake of collecting.”

“In many ways, the NSA has gotten too carried away with what is technologically possible, not what’s best for the security of the United States,” Leahy said during a Newsmakers interview that aired Sunday. “I have to be convinced we’re not just collecting for the sake of collecting.”
