Donald Trump has gained on Hillary Clinton in the latest ABC News tracking poll, although Clinton still has a healthy lead just two weeks from the election.
The latest poll says Clinton as a 9-point lead, 49-40, down 3 points from a prior poll that had her ahead by 12 points, 50-38.
The poll said voters were nearly evenly split between the Democrat and Republican candidates in their districts. Democrats have a 1-point edge, 47-46, over Republicans in their districts.
The tracking poll provides new evidence suggesting that down-ticket Republicans will not be harmed by traditional GOP voters who may not want to vote for Trump. Independent respondents divided evenly between Clinton and Trump, 41-41, but favored down-ballot Republicans over down-ballot Democrats in their district by 12 points, 51-39.
The ABC News tracking poll surveyed 1,119 likely voters from Oct. 21-24 by cellphones and landline telephones. The poll had a plus or minus 3 point margin of error.
