Trump backs left-leaning Rep. Renee Ellmers, who falsely claimed millennials aren’t pro-life

Yesterday, it was confirmed that Renee Ellmers, U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s 2nd district,  has been endorsed by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. This endorsement was Trump’s first since his nomination began. Ellmers was among the first to endorse Trump, making it natural for the nominee to endorse her back.

Daniel Horowitz of the Conservative Review said that Ellmers’ campaign announced Trump’s endorsement to voters Monday after a robo-call recorded by Trump was released on Saturday.

Trump explained his decision, saying “I need her help in Washington so we can work together to defeat ISIS, secure our border, and bring back jobs and frankly, so many other things.” He continued, “And Renee knows how to do it. She gets it. And together, we will make America great again.”

Ellmers, known to lean left more than most conservatives of her party, is asking House leaders to delay passing a bill that bans abortion after 20 weeks, justifying her decision by saying that “millennials simply don’t care about the issue.”

It was Students for Life of America’s president, Kristan Hawkins, who was quick to correct Ellmers after her statement was made public.

“In her reasoning, she cited that ‘millennials’ simply don’t care about this issue, which is blatantly false,” Hawkins told Breitbart. “In fact, it is the 18- to 29-year-olds that support banning abortions after 20 weeks by the widest margin.”

If Ellmer continues to push back on controversial topics such as abortion in the United States, she won’t be winning over Republican voters any time soon, especially millennials.
