Trump: Rick Perry endorsement shows how politicians ‘pivot’

Fair warning to Republicans who’ve endorsed Donald Trump: Don’t expect the presumptive GOP presidential nominee to refrain from making fun of you just because he has your support.

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry learned that the hard way on Wednesday, when Trump needled him and other “politicians” for offering up their support after months of mocking his candidacy.

“Rick Perry, good guy. He said the worst things about me. He was going around saying the worst things and I always liked him,” Trump told the crowd at his campaign rally in Anaheim, Calif.

He then added, “This politics is a dirty business. I have to tell you, I have never seen people able to pivot like politicians.”

“I get a call that Rick Perry … he made the nicest speech [about me]. In fact, he actually said something to the effect that perhaps the smartest person ever to run for the presidency … Trump, Trump!” the billionaire exclaimed.

Perry ended his own bid for the White House in September, not long after he called Trump a “cancer on conservatism” and “barking carnival act.”

The Texas Republican now says he’s open to being Trump’s running mate and has been actively recruiting donors for the pro-Trump Great America PAC.
