It’s not the resume he wants; it’s the wedding photo. That might provide Vanderbilt football coach James Franklin a better idea of what to expect from recruiters. Here’s what Franklin, who at one point was going to succeed Ralph Friedgen at Maryland, told 104.5 The Zone in Nashville, Tenn.:
“I’ve been saying it for a long time: I will not hire an assistant until I see his wife,” Franklin said.

“If she looks the part and she’s a DI recruit, then you got a chance to get hired. There’s a very strong correlation between having the confidence, going up and talking to a woman and being quick on your feet and having some personality and confidence and being articulate and confident than it is walking into a high school and recruiting a kid and selling him.”
Not sure that anyone ever described Sue Paterno or Ann Bowden as a “DI recruit.” At some point, recruiting also is about trust and honesty. In the long run, that’s what wins.
