Eight people were shot and wounded at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, on Friday, according to police.
Video and images from outside the mall showed a large police presence, with more than a dozen squad cars and officers with long guns trained on a Macy’s entrance.
“Investigators are working on determining the identity of the suspect,” the Wauwatosa police chief said. “Any information reporting the shooter’s identity at this time is false.”

A TV helicopter circling the mall noted that up to five victims were loaded into ambulances and that police were still hunting for the shooter.
Officers were reportedly alerted to the scene around 3 p.m. on Friday after calls from the mall said there was an active shooting taking place.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner was not en route to the mall, which WISN12 reporter Cherney Amhara said suggested there might not have been any deaths during the shooting.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s office just said they are *NOT* coming to Mayfair mall. This is important to know, because @mkemedexamine only responds when there is a death investigation.
Meaning, thankfully there is likely no deceased. #MayfairMallShooting #Wauwatosa pic.twitter.com/tLXzxHqce5

The Mayfair Mall was the site of a fatal shooting involving law enforcement on Feb. 2, when Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah allegedly killed 17-year-old Alvin Cole outside the mall. Mensah was released from the force on Wednesday.
