VIDEO: Challenges face police one year after Navy Yard shooting

Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of the shooting at the Navy Yard complex in Washington that left 12 dead after a contractor with a possible mental illness entered the facility and opened fire.

Following the shooting reports surfaced that emergency responders had difficulty contacting one another as the chaotic situation unfolded. In July, the Metropolitan Police Department released a report detailing the issues police and other first responders faced last September. Today, many of those challenges are still being worked out.

President Obama used Tuesday’s anniversary to again call on the need for gun control legislation and a reduction in gun violence in the country.
