A key ramp to the 9th Street Bridge in Northeast D.C. will be closed starting Monday morning and stay that way for the next five months, District officials said Wednesday.

The 9th Street Bridge that serves as a key connection between the Brentwood Shopping Center and Gallaudet University is being demolished. It also connects Rhode Island and New York Avenues, passing some 26,000 vehicles per day over extensive railroad tracks that lead to Union Station.

District Department of Transportation officials said they plan to shut the ramp leading from the westbound lanes of New York Avenue starting at 9 a.m. Monday.

Drivers will be detoured via Penn Street and Brentwood Parkway. The closure is expected to last through May, and the bridge is expected to be finished by early summer.
