Roger Stone: Trump ‘has no reason to be afraid of me’

Roger Stone says President Trump has nothing to fear from him, responding to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s assertion Saturday that Trump has been scared of Stone “for years.”

“He has no reason to be afraid of me — I am his most loyal supporter,” Stone said in a brief exchange with the Washington Examiner.

Haberman made the claim about Stone when responding to a question from former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. “Donald Trump is afraid of Roger Stone?” he asked in a tweet.

“For years” Haberman replied.

Earlier Haberman had suggested Sam Nunberg, not Stone, was the former Trump campaign adviser that the president had condemned as a “drunk/drugged up loser” in one of his tweets Saturday. She also said Trump is “too aware of what Stone could do to him to be that direct.” Haberman did not elaborate further.

That early-morning flurry of tweets lashed out at the Times for a report about how Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, might “flip” on him. Trump, in his tweets, denied this was the case and called Haberman a “third rate reporter” who, along with her colleagues, makes up sources. He did not substantiate any of his claims.

Both Stone and Nunberg were quoted in the report.

Stone told the Palm Beach Post the “drunk/drugged up loser” description was “Not a reference to me.” Meanwhile, Nunberg told CNN, “I have no idea who POTUS is talking about so I have no response.”

Stone has known Trump for decades, serving as a lobbyist to the businessman as well as a political adviser.
