Tobii Technology has obtained $14 millionin funding from a venture capital firm to grow its Eye Tracking technology business, the company announced Monday.
Tobii, a Swedish firm with U.S. operations based in McLean, has developed a technology that allows a computer to follow where an individual’s eyes are looking.
Eye Tracking has a variety of applications; It can be used for marketing research, determining where individuals’ eyes gravitate to first on a screen. It also is used for research into human behavior and as a communications tool for disabled individuals with limited mobility.
“We can bring individuals a meaningful life again, where they can communicate,” Tobii General Manager Nico Vroom said. “We present information on screen, and they then can click on the information with their eyes.”
Tobii counts among its U.S. clients Google, Microsoft and eBay, which use the technology for marketing research, Vroom said.
Tobii obtained funding from Investor Growth Capital, and it will be used for product development and marketing, according to a news release from Tobii.
