Utah Gov. Gary Herbert rescinds endorsement of Trump

Gov. Gary R. Herbert, R-Utah, became the first Donald Trump supporter to rescind his endorsement of the GOP nominee Friday night after a video was leaked in which Trump made controversial statements about seducing women in 2005.

“Donald Trump’s statements are beyond offensive & despicable. While I cannot vote for Hillary Clinton, I will not vote for Trump. #utpol,” Herbert tweeted late Friday. Herbert is up for re-election next month in a state where support for the GOP presidential nominee has been somewhat lean, but still sufficient enough for Trump to be leading in most polls against Clinton.

Earlier Friday, the Washington Post released a video with audio of Trump and Access Hollywood host Billy Bush talking about using their celebrity to take advantage of women.

The Republican nominee later put out a statement defending himself from the new report.

“[Former President] Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close,” Trump said. “I apologize if anyone was offended.”
