Arlington County residents now have a new way of turning in their neighbors.
Officials unveiled a new snow information section on the county website. The website, which provides basic information about the county’s efforts to plow snow and treat roads during a winter snow, also includes a new feature allowing residents to report uncleared sidewalks.
The reporting system was launched in conjunction with the county’s recently approved snow removal ordinance, passed in response to last year’s winter storms. Residents now have 24 hours to clear snow from their sidewalks when snow accumulates less than 6 inches. For snowstorms accumulating six inches or more, residents have 36 hours.
Residents who don’t clear snow risk a fine of $50 to $100, depending on the size of the sidewalk.
County Manager Barbara Donnellan said that residents who report uncleared sidewalks will remain anonymous.
