Harriet Tubman is about to don the $20 bill, but Dr. Ben Carson doesn’t believe the United States Treasury is making a wise decision.
Soon after the news was announced Wednesday, Carson voiced his displeasure with the move — not so much for them adding Tubman to the currency, but for kicking off former President Andrew Jackson, whom Carson called a “tremendous” president.
“Well, I think Andrew Jackson was a … tremendous president,” Carson told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto. “Andrew Jackson was the last president who actually balanced the federal budget, where we had no national debt.”
“And here he gets kicked off the $20 bill,” Cavuto chimed in.
“Right! So in honor of that, we kick him off of the money,” Carson said.
The former presidential candidate went on to tell the host that rather than put her on the $20 bill, she should grace the $2 bill despite it’s low circulation in recent years. Thomas Jefferson has long been the occupant on the currency. Carson made the comment when asked by the host if he is “anti-Harriet Tubman.”
“No. I love Harriet Tubman, I love what she did,” Carson said. “We can find another way to honor her. Maybe a $2 bill?”
