Greta Van Susteren, the veteran anchor who landed at MSNBC after leaving Fox News last year, is leaving her new network just shy of six months after she arrived.

Van Susteren announced her departure from MSNBC on Twitter, saying, simply, “I am out at MSNBC.”

The anchor hosted “For the Record” at 6 p.m., and according to Vanity Fair, the show “struggled to gain traction,” even as others on the network saw ratings boosts in the age of the President Trump.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin announced Van Susteren’s departure in a memo to network employees, which was obtained by Politico.

“MSNBC and Greta Van Susteren have decided to part ways,” Griffin wrote. “Greta is a well-regarded veteran and one of only a few broadcasters who can say they’ve hosted shows at all three major cable news networks. We are grateful to her and wish her the best.”

Van Susteren will not appear on the Thursday evening show, and is being replaced by Ari Melber.

Melber serves as MSNBC’s chief legal correspondent and hosts a weekend show.

While MSNBC began to see its ratings surge this year, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack suggested there could be issues with Van Susteren’s show.

“It’s not breaking out,” he told the New York Times last month. “Everybody wants every new show to break out Day 1. I think it takes time.”

“I’ve got a lot of patience,” Lack added.

According to Vanity Fair, other Republicans on the network have seen success, including “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough and Nicolle Wallace, who hosts a 4 p.m. show.

But Van Susteren’s “slightly wonky right-centrism didn’t catch,” Vanity Fair reported.

Van Susteren joined MSNBC in January after leaving Fox News in September, where she worked for 14 years.
