Rep. Eric Swalwell said that, if elected, he will fire President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner on his first day to help with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“Israel is a country that needs to work with the Palestinian people to find a two-state solution,” Swalwell told the New York Times.
“I support putting the U.S. back into the U.N. Commission on Human Rights. I support increasing aid to the Palestinian people, and I’m going to fire Jared Kushner on day one, because he has no business being on the job of seeking a two-state solution or finding peace in the Middle East. It requires serious scholars and a serious leader committed to making it happen,” he said.
Swalwell, whose campaign is largely centered on gun control, also said he does not want to see any more Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Among his many responsibilities, Kushner was tapped by Trump to solve the decades-long problem between Israel and its neighbors.
Kushner visited Israel in May to set the stage for a rollout of his peace plan at an economic workshop in Bahrain later this month. Representatives of Palestine, China, and Russia, however, are not attending the event.
Regarding the ability of the Palestinians to govern themselves, Kushner said, “The hope is, is that over time, they can become capable of governing.”
