Keith Olbermann: Trump detractors should refuse to call him ‘president’

Liberal commentator Keith Olbermann suggested Tuesday that President-elect Trump’s detractors should take a “passive aggressive” step to undermine his place in American history, by refusing to call him president.

“Not using one word can be just as forceful as perpetually using another,” he said in a video for GQ magazine posted online Tuesday. “Never address Trump as president. He is Trump. Just Trump. Never president. The title of president — that we must protect for a happier and more honest time. Resistance means refusal.”

Olbermann added that Trump’s victory is “illegitimate,” since he won the Electoral College but still received fewer votes nationally than Hillary Clinton.

Not all of Olbermann’s followers on social media were in favor of the proposal.

“That’ll show him!” one person wrote sarcastically on Twitter in response. “Dope.”

“Pathetic,” said another.

Olbermann has suffered a series of lost jobs, most famously his bitter departures from MSNBC and then-Current TV, but he underwent something of a revival during Trump’s campaign. In April, he announced in a Washington Post op-ed that he had moved out of an apartment he owned in Trump Tower.
