Ari Fleischer: Democratic push to impeach Trump is ‘hysterical, hyperbolic, hypocritical’

Ari Fleischer, former President George W. Bush’s White House press secretary, is taking aim at Democrats over their impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

“President Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was beautiful. Except for the part where Trump talked about former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter. That was inappropriate,” Fleischer said in a Friday op-ed for Fox News.

“But what’s even more inappropriate is the hysterical, hyperbolic, hypocritical, fabricated … impeachment-seeking reaction to the call,” he continued.

Fleischer, who has said he did not vote for Trump in 2016, argued that Democrats only want to point the finger at Trump over the phone call while ignoring Biden’s “threat” to “withhold $1 billion in American loan guarantees to Ukraine unless the Ukrainian president fired a prosecutor Biden didn’t like.”

The political aide said that Trump merely deserves a “five-yard penalty flag” for asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Biden for corruption.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that she was backing impeachment proceedings against Trump in the House following a whistleblower complaint over the Ukraine call. The president has hit back at accusations of wrongdoing, with his campaign announcing they are making a $10 million ad buy to attack the impeachment inquiry and his potential 2020 opponent Biden.
