Police from D.C. and Prince George’s County are investigating a spree of carjackings in which armed gunmen forced victims into car trunks.
At one point, the abductors had stuffed a man into one car trunk and were forcing his female friend into another car trunk. As the armed men opened the trunk, the female saw another woman already inside the trunk. She fought the gunmen and broke free.
Police say the crimes are related. None of the victims suffered serious physical injuries, police said.
The spree began about 7 p.m. Wednesday in Northeast Washington, at 12th and Newton streets. An armed man got out of a silver Honda Accord and forced a woman into the trunk of her car while another man got behind the wheel and drove away.
At about 7:30 p.m., armed men in a silver Honda and a white Mitsubishi carjacked a new Chevy Cobalt in the 300 block of Taylor Street NE, but the woman was able to escape.
Half an hour later in Prince George’s County, gunmen forced a couple from their car in the 1500 block of Ray Road. It was there that the female saw that another woman was already inside the trunk of the silver Honda the gunmen were trying to force her into. She fought off her abductors as the male victim opened his car trunk and they escaped.
The woman in the trunk of the Honda eventually was released.
Investigators have learned that the silver Honda was stolen in a Sunday carjacking.
One suspect was described as a black male, 19-years-old, 5-foot-5, 135 pounds, with a long pony tail and wearing a mask. A second suspect was described as a medium-complexioned black male, 6-foot-1 tall, slim build, wearingdark jeans and a mask.
