Hyattsville man sentenced for child porn

A Hyattsville man was sentenced to six years and five months in prison for distributing and possessing child pornography, officials said.

Daniel Cardwell, 28, was sentenced in federal court in Greenbelt Monday and had pleaded guilty in December, court records show.

From October 2010 to May 2011, Cardwell used a file sharing program to distribute about 1,300 files that depicted children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. When Maryland state troopers searched Cardwell’s home in May, they seized computers and hard drives that had about 57 videos depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to a court document.

When Cardwell is released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender in the places where he lives, works and is a student, officials said.
