Officials at the University of Houston-Victoria placed the school on lockdown after someone reported that a man was attacking people with a box cutter.
Shortly after the school went on lockdown Tuesday afternoon, officials lifted it but urged students to be careful as the suspect is still at large, according to the school.
“The lockdown at UHV campus in Victoria is lifted. Please be cautious. Police are continuing to look for a suspect described as a black male wearing black and carrying a box cutter. Call 9-1-1 if you see someone matching this description,” the school posted on its Facebook page.
After several people commented on the status, concerned that the school was taken off lockdown with the attacker still at large, the school responded that the attacks happened off campus.
“The incident was near campus, but no students were involved. UHV chose to lockdown the campus out of an abundance of caution,” the school said.
