NBC Sports’ Johnny Miller and Golf Channel’s Nick Faldo, two of the most out spoken voices in golf, will participate in a first-of-its-kind television event titled State of the Game Live, a Golf Central Special airing tonight at 8:30 p.m. on Golf Channel.
This is part of Golf Channel and NBC Sports’ new association as members of the NBC Sports Group, State of the Game Live will air live from The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Ariz., site of this week’s World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship. Miller and Faldo – along with fellow analysts Roger Maltbie (NBC Sports) and Brandel Chamblee (Golf Channel) – will participate in a panel discussion moderated by NBC Sports’ commentator Dan Hicks, which will focus on the important issues surrounding the game today. Golf Channel’s Frank Nobilo also will participate in the program.
They have gone all out for tonight’s show constructing a custom stage, which overlooks the golf course and surrounding Tucson desert area, built specifically for the show. The discussion will be free-flowing, covering such topics as what has been making headlines at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship; Tiger Woods; the emergence of European stars on the American stage and what it means the PGA TOUR; and rules – if they too complicated and if players need to understand them better.
Startng Saturday, all golf coverage on NBC will be re-branded as “Golf Channel on NBC.” The coverage will incorporate the Golf Channel look throughout every telecast, down to the logo on the NBC Sports commentators’ apparel. Golf Channel’s tournament graphics will be showcased throughout all coverage, which now includes a custom-made Golf Channel-NBC peacock combination logo.
Golf Channel and NBC will share 10 tournaments on the PGA TOUR’s 2011 FedExCup schedule, including the PGA TOUR Playoffs. The networks also will share coverage of The Presidents Cup, a biennial, team match-play event pitting the USA Team against the International Team, and select USGA amateur competition.
If the golf weekend was as good as last week’s Hockey Day in America was for Versus then the Golf Channel is in for a good weekend,
