Former President Donald Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, has died at the age of 73, the Trump family announced on Thursday.
“Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion & determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children & 10 grandchildren,” the Trump family said in a statement.
Police responded to a report of a person in cardiac arrest at a residence on the Upper East Side around 12:40 p.m. Thursday and found the 73-year-old unconscious “in close proximity” to the bottom of a staircase, a New York City Police Department spokesperson told Fox News. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Officials said the death appears be from natural causes and is not considered suspicious, per the report, which also noted the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate the cause of death.
MR. TRUMP GOES (BACK) TO WASHINGTON
Ivana Trump grew up in what was Czechoslovakia while it was under communist rule and married Donald Trump in 1977. They had three children together: Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. The couple was married for 15 years before they divorced in 1992.
The two met in New York while Ivana Trump was working as a model to promote the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. During their marriage, Ivana Trump held several top positions in the Trump Organization, including vice president of interior design and manager of the Plaza Hotel in New York City.
“I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City. She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life,” Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her.”
The pair’s marriage dissolved in the public eye after revelations surfaced that Donald Trump was having an affair with Marla Maples, who later became his second wife and mother to Tiffany Trump.

After their divorce, Ivana Trump went on to develop several clothing, jewelry, and beauty lines. She is also the author of several books, including Raising Trump, which documents her childhood growing up under communist rule to raising her three children.
