Trump allies trying to raise $2M to target reporters

President Trump’s allies are trying to raise two million dollars to fund an effort to find damaging information on journalists.

The fundraising effort was detailed in a three-page pitch seen by Axios.

Trump’s allies intend to target reporters and editors at the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, BuzzFeed, HuffPost, and other news outlets it claims “routinely incorporate bias and misinformation in to their coverage.”

The group said it would give the damaging information it finds on journalists to their colleagues at “friendly media outlets.”

Arthur Schwartz, a conservative consultant who is close with Donald Trump Jr., is involved in raising the funds.

Last month, the New York Times reported on the effort after it had exposed past anti-Semitic tweets from an editor at the newspaper. The pro-Trump network is now using the exposure to help fund their operation, joking that their slogan should be: “Brought to you by The New York Times.”

The effort is similar to how Media Matters, a liberal nonprofit, tracks journalists and publications for bias.
