Erin and Alli Blakely are hoping that once cupcake-mania subsides, the next dessert trend will be all about the pie.
The Northern Virginia natives, and their baby sister, Cat, are working on opening up a Georgetown bakery to be called the O’B.Sweet Pie Shoppe. As they prepare to open, they’ve also been filmed, in hopes of inking a reality show deal.
“We’re going to try to open up doors this spring,” Alli Blakely explained, staying mostly mum about those camera crews.
The sisters are still trying to find a perfect location in Georgetown to house the pie shop, first looking on O Street (part of the reason why there’s an ‘O’ in the name of the bakery) and now thinking about Wisconsin Avenue. They’ve been working on recipes since November and baking pies for events to get them in shape for the shop. “Of course we can’t say no to anyone,” Alli Blakely said with a laugh.
The pies that will likely get the biggest buzz are what the sisters call “cuppies.” “It’s a cup of pie, it’s the size of a cupcake, in a cupcake wrapper, and you eat them like a cupcake,” Alli Blakely explained.
“Eating a slice of pie is a lot more difficult than just picking up a cupcake or picking up a cup of pie,” sister Erin chimed in. “So that was another thing we wanted to do — larger events where people could just walk around and take a pie to go.”
The sisters will be making regular-sized pies too, of course, in an assortment of flavors like bourbon chocolate pecan and apple sour cream crunch.
Interested eaters can currently order the pies online. The sisters will find out soon if their TV show has been picked up by a network.
