President Obama on Tuesday will name California businessman John E. Bryson as the next commerce secretary.
Bryson – former CEO and chairman of the utility company Edison International – succeeds Gary Locke, who left the job in March when he was nominated to replace Republican presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman as ambassador to China.
Bryson is also a director of The Boeing Company, The Walt Disney Company and the W. M. Keck Foundation, a nonprofit that raises money for scientific, engineering and medical research.
Obama plans to make the personnel announcement at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the State Dining Room of the White House.
