Metro officials have identified a man killed Saturday by a Red Line train as a 65-year-old Montgomery Village resident. They are not releasing his name.
The man was killed Saturday morning at the Rockville station after he “intentionally placed himself” on the tracks in front of a train headed north towards the Shady Grove Metro station, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said Saturday.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials pronounced the man dead at the scene. The station was closed for about 30 minutes and delays continued while trains single-tracked between Shady Grove and Twinbrook.
Stessel said Sunday that the medical examiner’s office had not officially ruled the death a suicide, however, witness accounts from the train operator and bystanders indicate the man stepped in front of the train intentionally.
