Virginia GOP urges boycott of restaurant that booted Sarah Sanders

The Republican Party of Virginia is calling for a boycott of a Lexington-based restaurant whose owner asked White House press secretary Sarah Sanders to leave over the weekend.

“Once again, the intolerant left has shown its true colors. Sign the boycott petition to show the Red Hen that patriotic Trump supporters are the silent majority in Virginia!” the party tweeted Monday.

Sanders was dining at the Red Hen in Lexington, Va., when the restaurant’s owner asked her to leave because she works for President Trump.

Sanders tweeted about the incident Saturday and said she “politely left.”

“Her actions say far more about her than me,” she said on Twitter. “I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

The petition from the Republican Party of Virginia criticizes the “liberal” restaurant owner and says the “intolerant left has shown its true colors.”

The incident also garnered the attention of the president, who said on Twitter on Monday that the restaurant was unclean.

“The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!” Trump tweeted.
