Former FSU coach Bobby Bowden: ‘Trump plus God … is a majority’

Former Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden praised President Trump during a rally in Florida on Saturday, telling the crowd “Trump plus God … is a majority.”

Bowden, 88, made the remark during the event in Pensacola, Fla.

It’s unclear what, specifically, the former Seminoles coach meant by the phrase. Bowden was the head coach at Florida State for more than three decades and retired in 2009.

Bowden appeared alongside Trump as he made his pitch to Florida voters to support Republicans on the ballot in Tuesday’s election, including Gov. Rick Scott, who is challenging Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson for his Senate seat, and Rep. Ron DeSantis, who is running for governor against Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat.

The president has made immigration a central focus of his closing argument to voters, seizing particularly on a caravan of thousands of migrants making their way from Honduras to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump’s rally in Florida is the second he hosted on Saturday. The president appeared earlier in the day in Montana as part of an eight-state tour that started on Friday.

On Sunday, the president will host rallies in Georgia and Tennessee, and he will make appearances in Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri on Monday.
