Up to four commercial airplanes were forced to make emergency landing in three South American countries Thursday afternoon after bomb threats were made against multiple jets.
Three of the flights that were threatened landed in Chile, Peru, and Argentina, according to multiple reports.
Online flight data from LATAM Airlines indicates Flight 2369 from capital city Lima, Peru, to Santiago, Chile, landed in Pisco, located two hours south of the departing city.
Peru’s Transportation Ministry said the Chilean government had received the threat shortly after takeoff.
“Today at 12:48, the Radar Control Center of Peru received a call from its counterparts in Chile, saying they had received a bomb threat concerning Latam Flight LA 2369,” the statement reads.
The pilots diverted the plane and landed shortly before 2 p.m. local time. Passengers aboard that plane were taken back to Lima.
The “situation is under control” and no passengers were injured during the scare, Peruvian authorities said in a statement.
It’s not clear whether the other reported incidents were threats made my one person or multiple people.
