Popeyes chicken sandwich coming back early next month

The Popeyes chicken sandwich, which sold out nationwide two months ago, is coming back early next month, according to Guillermo Perales, the CEO of Sun Holdings, which operates 150 Popeyes locations.

Perales told Bloomberg on Wednesday that his Popeyes locations would be offering the menu item again in early November.

Restaurant Brands, which owns Popeyes, has been keeping the exact date of the sandwich’s return a secret and refused to confirm or specify when the chicken sandwich is coming back. However, the company did say it is hiring more workers nationwide to prepare for the menu item’s return.

“Our franchisees have worked to increase staffing. We have been working diligently to bring the sandwich back to our restaurants soon, as we know our guests are anxiously anticipating its return,” the company said in a statement.

Perales said his locations are hiring an additional 400 people to prepare for the expected uptick in demand. He added that they might even designate two people whose only job is to make the sandwiches.

“The first time, they weren’t ready,” he said.

Demand for the Popeyes sandwich took off after the company and Chick-fil-A beefed with each other on Twitter over whose sandwich was better.
