Virginia Del. Bill Janis, R-Glen Allen, introduced a congressional map as part of the decennial redistricting process that appears similar to a proposal that would help out the state’s eight Republican and three Democratic incumbents.
Under the plan, Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly would pick up the more Democratic Reston area, and cede parts of western Prince William — which typically trend more Republican than the Fairfax areas of his 11th district — to Republican Reps. Frank Wolf and Rob Wittman.
It resembles a proposal that had been circulating designed to shore up the seats of the state’s 11 incumbents, which has been blasted by advocates of redistricting reform.
In other redistricting news, the Virginia House of Delegates late Wednesday signed off on a plan that would shift three state House seats to Northern Virginia from southern portions of the state.
