Argument over woman ended with body in box
Police say a man whose body was found in a cardboard box in Frederick County was murdered by a co-worker after the two men got in an argument over a woman at their workplace in the District.
Marvin Palencia, 34, was arrested Saturday afternoon at his Hyattsville home on charges that he murdered 36-year-old Jacobo Vazquez.
Palencia is a maintenance supervisor at a building on the 100 block of Constitution Avenue NW, and is accused of shooting and killing Vazquez on Nov. 12 before stuffing his body in a cardboard box and dumping it 50 miles north of the city on Interstate 70.
A cleanup crew discovered the body Tuesday.
Two teens arrested in Va. stabbing
Two teens have been accused of stabbing a third teen to death and participating in a gang.
Miguel Hernandez, 15, was walking home from school in Manassas on Friday afternoon when a group of other teens stabbed him to death, police said.
Police charged 18-year-old Mauricio Martinez, of Manassas, and a 17-year-old from Fairfax with murder and gang participation in connection to Hernandez’s death.
The Northern Virginia Gang Task Force aided in the arrests, authorities said.
Leader in armored car robbery lands 3-year prison sentence
A 25-year-old Maryland man will spend three years in prison and will have to pay $210,000 in restitution after he led three others in the staged robbery of an armored car.
Anthony Holman admitted that he received $100,000, the largest share of $210,000, he stole from an armored car in May 2008. The driver of the car was in on the robbery and handed Holman the cash while he was parked on 19th Street in Northwest.
