Happy Trails: Stephanopoulos says goodbye to ‘This Week’

George Stephanopoulos gave a gracious on-air goodbye on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, thanking his staff “for making ‘This Week’ the special program it will always be.”

But for the after-party, Stephanopoulos invited the staff and crew on set for some Sunday morning Champagne, cake and photos. His wife, Ali Wentworth, and daughters Elliott, 7, and Harper, 4, joined in.

During his seven-year run at “This Week,” Stephanopoulos helped close the ratings gap between “This Week” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

And, as the latest addition to the “Good Morning America” team, the resident celebrity will leave the District and relocate to New York.

During the interim while ABC chooses a replacement, correspondents Terry Moran and Jake Tapper will guest-anchor. There is speculation, however, that ABC is considering former anchor of ABC’s “Nightline,” Ted Koppel, for the job.
