A deer is dead and a D.C. library is closed after the mammal burst through a glass window shortly before the branch was scheduled to open Tuesday afternoon.

Officials shuttered the Washington Highlands Interim Library, located at 4037 South Capitol St. SW, for the day shortly after a deer slammed into a window.

“It actually jumped through the window,” library spokesman George Williams told The Washington Examiner.

Williams later confirmed that animal control officers euthanized the deer after determining it had a broken jaw.

Williams said library officials were uncertain when the branch would reopen. The library system, he said, will need to install a new window and fumigate the facility.

Although a spokesman for the D.C. Fire and EMS Department said one female library employee was injured, Williams said nobody was hurt in the incident.

The library had been scheduled to open at 1 p.m.
