COLONIE, N.Y. (AP) — Two New York City men face multiple felony charges after police in suburban Albany say they sold fake gold coins through Craigslist.

Colonie Police got involved when a local buyer paid $14,000 for 12 one-ounce gold coins, only to find out from a jeweler that they were gold-plated and worth far less.

When another ad appeared on Craigslist, police arranged an undercover buy. They arrested 33-year-old Sungwook Hong and 26-year-old Yohann Pyon, both of Queens.

Police say the men told officers they were involved in about 10 similar sales in New York and surrounding states. They got the coins originally from China.

The U.S. Secret Service assisted in the investigation.
