State capitals and major cities suffered outages, including Houston, Chicago, and Detroit. The majority, though, were reported in San Francisco, with Los Angeles experiencing the second-highest rate. The outages also affected parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Around 64% of users reported a “total blackout,” 24% reported landline and internet troubles, and 12% reported issues with email.

The Aurora Police Department warned that Illinois residents who use Xfinity may not be able to contact police by calling 911 due to the outage.

It is unclear when all services will be back online. Internet and Wi-Fi are expected to be restored by late Tuesday night, Comcast told NBC Bay Area’s Raj Mathai.
