McDonald’s corporate Twitter account deleted a tweet calling President Trump “disgusting” and wishing President Obama could come back into office Thursday morning.
“@realDonaldTrump You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back,” the account tweeted. “Also you have tiny hands.”
McDonald’s said in a follow-up tweet that it was informed by Twitter that its account had been hacked. The company said the account is now secure and it is investigating the incident.
A statement Thursday evening went further, saying an internal review found the McDonald’s account had been “hacked by an external source.”
“Based on our investigation, we have determined that our Twitter account was hacked by an external source. We took swift action to secure it, and we apologize this tweet was sent through our corporate McDonald’s account,” the statement read.
The initial tweet was meant as a special insult to Trump, who is a massive fan of the fast food chain. Trump’s love for Big Macs and a large Diet Coke with fries is well-known and was a staple of his campaign diet.
He is known to love fast food because “at least you know what they are putting in it.”
