1 dead, 24 families displaced in Suitland apartment fire

An early-morning fire at a Suitland apartment complex killed one man and will displace 24 families.

The three-alarm blaze broke out at about 4:30 a.m. at 3362 Curtis Drive, Prince George’s County fire and emergency service said. The fire, which was extinguished at about 7 a.m., extended to a neighboring apartment building.

A 27-year-old man was found dead in the apartment where the fire is believed to have originated, according to Mark Brady, fire and EMS spokesman. His name was not released because his family has not been notified.

Three residents and three firefighters were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. All are expected to be released today.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Loss estimates were not available, but the building was badly damaged.

About 24 families will be displaced. They will receive assistance from the fire and emergency services, the Red Cross and apartment management.
